Biographie

The Byrds est un groupe américain de rock originaire de Los Angeles, Californie. Le groupe est formé en 1964, et disparait en 1973. Durant sa décennie d'existence, il connaît de nombreux changements de musiciens ; le guitariste et chanteur Roger (Jim) McGuinn est le seul à en avoir toujours fait partie. Les Byrds ne connaissent le succès commercial qu'à leurs débuts, en 1965-1966, mais ils sont considérés comme l'un des groupes les plus influents du rock des années 1960, ayant contribué à la naissance du genre folk rock avec leur reprise de Mr. Tambourine Man (1965), puis à l'émergence du rock psychédélique avec le single Eight Miles High (1966), avant de s'orienter vers le country rock, un autre genre dont ils sont les pionniers avec l'album Sweetheart of the Rodeo (1967).
